Shannon Curtis is the Director of Bands for grades 9-12 at Zimmerman Middle and High School. His primary duties involve teaching the high school Concert Band and Wind Symphony. He also teaches middle school instrumental lessons and works with students in preparation for Solo and Ensemble Contest and All-State auditions. He is the director of the Zimmerman High School Jazz Band and the Zimmerman Pit Orchestra. Shannon is director of the River Valley Sound winter hornline and hornline director for the 728 Cadets Marching Band. He joined the Cadets staff in the summer of 2017.
Shannon is a 2013 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. In his career, Shannon has presented about best practices, support for new teachers, and the marching arts at various symposium events in Iowa and Minnesota, including multiple presentations at the Minnesota Music Educators Association Mid-Winter Conference. Shannon currently serves as President of the Minnesota Band Directors Association and as the musical director of the North Suburban Concert Band. When possible, he also performs with the Twin Cities Trumpet Ensemble, and subs regularly in Twin Cities area bands and orchestras!
A 2018 Magnum Cum Laude graduate of Luther College, Chris is now the Middle Level Band Director at Zimmerman ML/HS. Prior to Zimmerman ML/HS, he taught 5-12 band at Ogilvie Public Schools, and he marched competitively with the Rochester Lourdes High School Marching Band. Mr. O'Connell has continued to teach marching band with various groups across the state since graduating high school. Outside marching band, Mr. O'Connell has been a music director for several theater camps including the Rochester Repertory Theater and the Rochester Civic Theater and conducted the pit orchestra for the original film "Insomnambulist." Mr. O'Connell is excited to continue working with RVS in his 5th year as the assistant director!
